California PTs can now call themselves doctors

Licensed physical therapists with a doctoral degree can now call themselves doctors within California, according to the California Physical Therapy Association. A recent ruling changed the California Physical Therapy Practice Act from 1953 to allow PTs to use the title as long as they hold a doctoral degree in physical therapy. By 2020, the American Physical Therapy Association visions that all licensed PTs will by at the doctoral level.
