AOTA provides plan of care recertification advice

Rehab Regs, March 7, 2008

The 90-day plan of care recertification went into effect on January 1, 2008 for Medicare Part B, although not all local contractors are honoring the 90-day time frame, according to an American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) press release. A number of contractors are waiting for a transmittal from CMS before they acknowledge the 90-day recertification, while others are already honoring the new time frame. CMS expects to release the transmittal in April addressing the 90-day recertification rule. Until the transmittal is released, contractors do not have to honor the 90-day recertification. AOTA is advising therapists to follow the 30-day recertification rule until the transmittal is released, according to the press release.
