CMS sets DMEPOS accreditation deadline
Rehab Regs, December 28, 2007
Under CMS' September 30, 2009, accreditation deadline for current suppliers of durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics, and supplies (DMEPOS), PTs and OTs will need accreditation by a CMS-approved organization in order to bill Medicare Part B for DMEPOS.
If OTs and PTs do not receive their accreditation by the deadline, they cannot bill Medicare for custom-fabricated or prefabricated orthotics using the Level II HCPCS codes, according to an American Occupational Therapy Association press release.
