MA hospitals may see cuts from treating uninsured patients

Massachusetts hospitals could see cuts in the millions of dollars from state reimbursements for care they provide to uninsured and low-income patients under the state's new healthcare law, according to state health officials.

One organization - Southcoast Health System, which owns and operates three hospitals - will see payments for treating the uninsured fall by $5.6 million when the rule goes into effect October 1.

Some rules in the new system also require hospitals to collect co-payments and deductibles, regardless of whether or not they have insurance. To read the full story, which appeared in the Boston Globe, click here.
