Michigan insurance providers target specific age groups with custom plans

Patient Financial Services Weekly Advisor, September 7, 2007

Several of Michigan's largest health insurers, including Aetna, Health Alliance Plan, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, are targeting specific age groups, such as young adults or the middle-aged with plans specifically geared towards the unique audiences, says the Detroit News.

The insurers are offering young adults, who comprise just over 50% of the uninsured population in the United States, according to the Employee Benefit Research Institute, a wide range of plans to fit their varying needs. From pocket-book friendly coverage that covers only major catastrophes, to plans that offer benefits such as teeth-whitening and discounted gym memberships, the plans are geared towards the interests and needs of young people, according to a September 5 article in the Detroit News.

Plans geared towards middle aged patients target those who may not yet be old enough for Medicare, but may have retired early, been laid off, or simply don't have employer-based coverage, says the Detroit News.
