University of Chicago Medical Center may hand off Medicaid patients
Patient Financial Services Weekly Advisor, August 24, 2007
The University of Chicago Medical Center is discussing the possibility of sending patients covered by Medicaid to the county's Provident Hospital. Cook county's financially-troubled hospital could use the influx of funds, while the research-based University of Chicago facility could use extra space for patients with private insurance, according to a Chicago Tribune article from August 22.
The discussion between the county and university facilities, which are within two miles of each other on Chicago's South Side, is indicative of the current struggle that public health facilities are facing in light of declining federal revenues, says the Chicago Tribune.
