The healthcare industry is part of a movement toward adopting technology, such as the use of kiosks, to save time and money.

The Washington Post reports that more than 100 U.S. hospitals are using kiosks from NCR, whose users can schedule appointments, view lab results and update insurance information or family history.

Heritage Valley Health System in southwestern Pennsylvania told the Post that its NCR kiosks have cut check-in and registration times from nearly 10 minutes to two minutes since it adopted the technology last year.

The health system will spend $750,000 on the kiosks over four years, according to Heritage Valley CIO David Carleton, in the Post story.
