Bush plans to stop expansion of children's healthcare plan
Patient Financial Services Weekly Advisor, July 20, 2007
President Bush plans to stop the expansion of a healthcare program that offers coverage to the country's poorest children, according to a Washington Post article.
The senate proposed to expand the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) by $35 billion over five years, but the president disagrees on "philosophical grounds," the article said.
Bush said he supports the intent of the program, but his fears of increasing dependability on government funds make him cautious to expand eligibility for aid programs.
SCHIP provides healthcare coverage to 6.6 million children whose families do not qualify for Medicaid but can't afford insurance.
