CMS launches demo for high-cost beneficiaries

In a move to find ways to reduce costs and improve quality of life for Medicare beneficiaries who have high medical expenses, CMS said it will launch a demonstration program.
The agency will study various care-management models for high-cost beneficiaries in the traditional Medicare fee-for-service (FFS) program. The models may include the following:
Physicians groups, hospitals, and integrated delivery systems are encouraged to participate in the demonstration project, which is free and will not change their FFS benefits.
CMS must receive provider applications on or before January 4, 2005.
