One of the interesting-and frequently mentioned-topics at the AHIMA National Convention October 1-3 in Chicago was the use of dual coding as a way to prepare for the transition to ICD-10. The idea is to have coders using both ICD-9 and ICD-10 at the same time so they can practice their ICD-10 coding without impacting the bottom line.
