On November 4, CMS issued a transmittal that updated the CY 2012 Update for Durable Medical Equipment, Prosthetics, Orthotics and Supplies (DMEPOS) Fee Schedule. CMS added and deleted several HCPCS codes, updated the KE modifier, adjusted payment rates, and more.
CMS replaces transmittal on payment rate increases for RHCs and FQHCs
On November 4, CMS rescinded Transmittal 2308, dated September 23, 2011, and replaced it with Transmittal 2343 to provide the actual payment rate increases for Rural Health Clinics (RHCs) and Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs).
On November 10, the OIG published a report that states inaccuracies and lack of uniformity in ZPIC data prevented the OIG from assessing the contractors’ activities. The OIG believes these issues make it difficult for CMS to effectively oversee ZPIC operations and detect and deter fraud, waste, and abuse.
Medicare expands preventive services to cover cardiovascular disease screenings
On November 8, CMS issued a press release that states it will expand its list of free preventive services to include one face-to-face visit each year to allow patients and their care providers to determine the best way to help prevent cardiovascular disease.
CMS offers guidance on completing the CMS-855A enrollment form
On November 17, CMS issued a Special Edition MLN Matters article that gives hospitals guidance on completing the CMS-855A enrollment application.
