EHR Incentive program overview and update
A CMS representative provided the audience with an overview of the EHR Incentive Program that was established by law under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The representative provided a website (http://www.cms.gov/EHRIncentivePrograms) for more information. In addition, the representative informed the audience that in order to participate in the EHR incentive programs, providers must register via the EHR incentive program website (above), have a national provider identifier or NPI and an NPPES web account, and last, providers must use certified EHR technology. For more information on certified EHR technology, visit www.healthit.hhs.gov. All Medicare providers and all Medicaid eligible hospitals must also have an enrollment record in PECOS in order to complete registration, according to the CMS representative.
A CMS representative told the audience that registration for the National Care Transition Conference is still open and that anyone looking for more information can contact caretransition@cms.hhs.gov regarding this conference.
