Class Act
Coding Educator, February 15, 2010
NAME: Shannon E. McCall, RHIA, CCS, CCS-P, CPC, CPC-I, CCDS
HOMETOWN: Richmond (Chesterfield), VA
INSTRUCTS: Certified Coder Boot Camp, Certified Coder Boot Camp Online, Certified Coder Boot Camp – Inpatient Version and the Evaluation and Management Boot Camp-Professional Version.
HARDEST COURSE OR CLASS YOU’VE EVER TAKEN: Statistics!! I had an instructor in college that would work on a problem for the whole hour of class then get the wrong answer! He’d tell us he’d work on it and let us know for the next class. Of course, this really helped us come exam time.
DESCRIBE YOUR FIRST BOOT CAMP TEACHING EXPERIENCE: My first class as the solo instructor was in Dallas, TX in August 2002. I was very nervous and was totally convinced that I had messed up E/M coding so horribly that the students would leave utterly confused.Luckily, the students were so kind to me. They must have been encouraging since I am now going on almost eight years of teaching these classes!
FAVORITE BAND / ARTIST: It’s hard to answer with just one. I love so many different kinds of music. I used to work in a music store all through high school and partly through college so I came to appreciate all types of music. On my IPod I have everything from classic rock to jazz to pop to heavy metal to hip-hop! It depends on the activity (leisurely walking the dog, or working out) as to what tunes/band I love.
