Class Act
Coding Educator, January 18, 2010
NAME: Peggy S. Blue, MPH, CPC, CCS-P
HOMETOWN: Wrightsville, PA
INSTRUCTS: Certified Coder Boot Camp®, Certified Coder Boot Camp Online and Medicare Boot Camp® - Physician Services Version
WHATS THE MOST COMMON CODING MISTAKE YOU’VE SEEN? Coming from a Medicare background, it has to be not documenting what was performed particularly in regard to Evaluation and Management services. The doctor may bill a level 5 office visit, but the documentation all too often does not support that.
FAVORITE U.S. CITY TO VISIT: Wrightsville, PA – my current hometown. I travel so much that I love to be home. A close runner-up is Brookston, IN, where my family roots remain.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU OFFER A CODING BEGINNER? Practice makes perfect. Having many coding credentials behind your name is not what makes someone a good coder. In some respects, it indicates that the person is a good test-taker. Experience is what makes you a good coder.
