The number of patients satisfied with their inpatient care has steadily risen in each of the last five years, according to the 2009 Hospital Pulse Report: Patient Perspectives on American Health Care.
The report analyzes data collected from nearly three million patients at 2,000 U.S. hospitals in 2008. Eighty-five percent of respondents said they were satisfied with their inpatient care.
The following are the top five states rated highest by respondents:
- Maine
- South Carolina
- New Hampshire
- Wisconsin
- Montana
Respondents also ranked their priorities for inpatient healthcare providers:
- Response to concerns and complaints made during their stay
- Degree to which hospital staff addressed their emotional needs
- Staff effort to include them in decisions about your treatment
- How well the nurses kept them informed
- Promptness in responding to the call button
