Hospitals have cut back sharply on capital equipment acquisitions during this economic downturn. But they must still replace or buy equipment, and some are embarking on expansion projects that have been on the drawing board for years.
Pulling together the complex clinical and business details inherent in a multimillion dollar capital equipment acquisition or large construction project is a task often plagued by poor product selections, cost overruns, and other expensive mistakes.
Seeking to avoid such pitfalls, University Community Health (UCH), a four-hospital system based in Tampa, FL, has enlisted the help of a technology manager to guide the capital equipment acquisition process. The move has saved UCH millions of dollars, thus far.
