Start blending quality into the compliance program

For years, quality and compliance have been two different tribes in the healthcare world. However, with the growing concern about quality issues such as hospital-acquired conditions, present-on-admission conditions, and never events, the link between quality and compliance is becoming clearer.
During the 2009 Health Care Compliance Association’s (HCCA) 13th annual Compliance Institute April 26–29, integrating quality into compliance programs was a hot topic. Many speakers mentioned “breaking down the silos” of quality and compliance in order to encourage communication between the two areas.
