CPT coders face a lengthy list of changes in 2009. According to the American Academy of Professional Coders, there are 291 additions, 375 revisions, and 95 deletions. These are two of a number of changes coders should note.
The AMA made significant changes to the transurethral resection of the prostate codes, deleting four codes. CPT code 52630, which previously reported transurethral resection of residual obstructive tissue more than one year following the original procedure, now includes many of the procedures in the four deleted codes.
The 2009 CPT Manual omits code 61793, previously used for cranial stereotactic radiosurgery, and introduces a new stereotactic radiosurgery section and code range (61796–61800), complete with extensive guidelines.
