HFMA survey touts progress in supply chain savings

Just as hospital financial executives are buying into the notion that trimming supply chain costs yields a straight path to overall hospital operational improvement, one seasoned supply chain expert says fast-rising spending on physician preference items could soon occupy a larger share than ever of a hospital’s overall supply chain expenses.
A report conducted and released earlier this year by the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA), Opportunities for Supply Chain Improvement, makes conclusions based on a survey of a cross section of the nation’s senior hospital and IDN financial executives and supply chain leaders about effective supply chain practices and areas of opportunity for improvement.
