When you think of supply chain management, do you automatically consider sterile processing (or central processing [CP]) as a fundamental cornerstone? Probably not.
Sterile processing has a long history as the manufacturing arm of the classic materials management model. Progressive materials directors sought to fold the processing function into the materials process to improve standardization, reduce waste, manage quality, and build a support structure for the clinical staff working in OR services.
