Health insurance companies to offer their members cost estimates

The Wisconsin Association of Health Plans announced last week that 17 of its health insurance companies have pledged to offer members estimates of their potential out-of-pocket costs, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

As high deductibles have become more common, it has become increasingly important for members to obtain estimates of their up-front expenses.

The group of insurance companies, which includes Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Humana and United Healthcare of Wisconsin, agreed to start providing the estimates by September 1.
