Patient Financial Services Weekly Advisor, May 2, 2008
A Dallas doctor will pay more than $253,000 after prosecutors accused him of submitting improper Medicare and Medicaid claims, the Dallas Morning News reports.
Dr. Daniel Maynard earlier received five years' probation for prescribing a controlled substance without no medical purpose. There were also allegations last fall he was responsible for at least 11 overdose deaths.
U.S. Attorney Richard Roper issued a release stating Dr. Maynard, 62, inflated “billings for thousands of physician evaluation and management services” between January 1999 and June 2003.
Maynard did not plead guilty or admit any fault.
