House votes down Medicaid cutbacks

The House voted last Wednesday to stop the Bush administration from cutting federal spending on Medicaid by $13 billion over the next five years, the Washington Post reports.

With more than enough votes to override the President’s possible veto, supporters said the rules would serve only to move financial burdens to the states at a time of economic stress, and limit access to healthcare for the people who need it most.
