Controlling costs for orthopedic implant purchases is an ongoing challenge for materials managers and, unfortunately, that challenge will not get any easier in the near future. Physician preference for these devices remains strong, and the aging population and the fact that baby boomers are expecting and demanding an active lifestyle in their later years is driving huge growth in the hip and knee implant markets.
