NEWS: RACs collect $371.5 million in 2007

The Medicare RACs are working overtime.
Recovery audit contractors (RACs) in California, Florida and New York last year collected more than $371.5 million in improper Medicare payments from or repaid to healthcare providers and suppliers, according to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
Nearly $440 million has been collected since the program began in 2005. The RAC demonstration program aims to reveal and fix improper Medicare payments paid to healthcare providers participating in fee-for-service Medicare.
