Billing for a multi-disciplinary clinic

Patient Financial Services Weekly Advisor, February 22, 2008

Q. How should we bill for a multi-disciplinary clinic in which each physician dictates his or her own notes in a "subjective, objective, assessment, plan" (SOAP) format? This is for a specialty clinic with a 60-team conference and a child who has spinal bifida.

A. If the team is meeting to discuss the care of the child without the child being present, then 99361-99362 should be used. If each of the physicians is seeing the child and dictating their own notes, then each physician should bill for his or her services with the appropriate diagnoses.
