MA will pay for its health insurance initiative

Massachusetts became the first state to ensure every resident is covered by health insurance this year. But the landmark initiative will cost the Bay State.
Spending will rise by more than $400 million next year, the Boston Globe reports. Most of that cost is due to residents signing up for the state-subsidized health insurance.
"We have fully-funded healthcare reform," Governor Deval Patrick said at a news conference.
"These increases are more than anticipated, so we absolutely have to find ways to hold down the rate of growth in future years," said Michael Widmer, president of the Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation.
