Doctor sentenced for insurance fraud

A Grand Rapids, MI, doctor was sentenced yesterday on 33 counts of healthcare fraud, including stealing money from Medicare and Medicaid.
Dr. Robert Stokes re-used medical equipment intended to be used once, exposing patients to viruses like HIV or hepatitis, according to a report by news channel 3.
Before those findings, Stokes was found guilty of defrauding two insurance companies more than one million dollars.
The findings also included charges Stokes used unnecessary surgical procedures and stole money from Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance companies.
