Editor’s note: The following is an edited excerpt from Residency Program Alert’s (RPA) coverage of the 2020 Residency Coordinator Salary Survey, which can be accessed in the RPA archive here. Not an RPA member? Click here for more information about becoming an RPA subscriber.

According to HCPro's 2020 Residency Coordinator Salary Survey, the most common job title among respondents is "residency program coordinator," with 30% of responses (see Figure 5). This was the top title reported in our 2017 and 2019 surveys. Titles that saw the most growth since the 2019 survey were resident and fellowship program coordinator (+3%), education program coordinator (+3%), and medical education coordinator/specialist (+2%). The titles that saw the biggest decreases were program administrator (-3%) and GME program administrator (-2%). In years past, titles containing "administrator" were on the rise.

Reinforcing the evolving nature of the coordinator role and its diversity of responsibilities, 19% of respondents selected "other" as their title instead of one of the provided options. However, this percentage is down from the 24% reported in 2017 and 2019. Respondents who selected "other" specified a wide variety of titles, including academic specialist, GME academic manager, and training program administrator.

Respondents who chose “other” were asked to type in their title when taking the survey. A word cloud was generated using their responses (see Figure 6).
