"Most health care systems promote a patient-centered approach, but I think what's lacking is concrete education on trauma. If you're educated on trauma … you're better able to understand your patient's wishes, and respect your patient."
- Holly Gibbs, a sex trafficking survivor and director of Dignity Health System's Human Trafficking Response Program, explains the importance of training physicians on how to provide trauma-informed care to patients. The U.S. Department of Justice recently granted Dignity Health $1.5 million to expand its training designed to help physicians better aid and identify patients who may be victims of human trafficking.
