Can remote interviews replace on-site interviews?

It is becoming apparent that today’s digital era may be a catalyst for a total abandonment of on-site interviews during the GME residency selection process. As the selection process has become almost completely digital, the current standard screening of the applicants’ credentials could likely be followed by remote interviews instead of on-site ones. The use of video conferencing would allow more applicants to be interviewed in less time, cutting out the current cumbersome daylong interviews.
