The ACGME recently announced the 30 proposals selected for its Back to Bedside initiative, which aims to develop new strategies for improving physician and patient well-being and increasing the time physicians spend with patients. The teams, which are led by residents and fellows, will receive a total of $130,000 in grants, renewable for up to two years.
The ACGME Council of Review Committee Residents developed the initiative to tackle the issue of burnout by helping physicians find meaning in their learning environments and meaningful engagement with patients. The projects will focus on direct patient interaction, patient satisfaction, and outcome measures.
Recipients recently gathered at the ACGME offices in Chicago to commence their work and will receive their initial funding in January 2018.
