The ACGME recently posted a proposed focused revision to its institutional requirements and has opened the period for review and comments. According to the accompanying impact statement, many of the proposed revisions are intended to bringing the institutional requirements into alignment with the recently revised Section VI of the Common Program Requirements—Clinical Experience and Education (formerly Duty Hours).

For example, one proposed revision would require the sponsoring institution, in partnership with its ACGME-accredited programs, to ensure the availability of resources for adequate sleep facilities and safe transportation for residents and fellows who may be too fatigued to return home safely.

Another proposed revision would require the sponsoring institution to ensure residents are provided resources to support their well-being. These include access to mental health services and self-screening tools.
The deadline for comments is November 30.
