Depending on how GME fits into your organizational structure, oversight will vary. Don’t look at the GME office involvement as Big Brother taking over but rather as advocates helping. Also remember that, per the ACGME Institutional Requirements, the graduate medical education committee has oversight over all accredited programs within the sponsoring institution.
Ask your GME office whether it has a clinical competency committee written description of responsibilities template that all programs can use, and then customize it to meet your needs. This approach works with larger institutions and ensures that all programs include the necessary verbiage within their document. Note that the GME office may review your individual program written description of responsibilities annually, and you will need to have it readily available if you are scheduled for an ACGME site visit.
