When a patient establishes trust with his or her physician, the physician’s treatment plan is generally more accepted and followed. According to an October 2016 Joint Commission release, the successful delivery of healthcare services is dependent on effective communication. Therefore, a 360-degree approach to effective communication must incorporate linguistic skills, health literacy, cultural competencies, verbal and nonverbal communication, and other communication issues.
