To pay for an emergency medicine residency position, Grand River Hospital in Kitchener, Ontario, recently sent out donation envelopes to homes in the community. The hospital hopes to raise $300,000 to pay for a second resident position for three years.

Currently the hospital has one medical resident working in the emergency department funded by the Ministry of Health. However, the hospital says it needs a second resident to help reduce wait times. If it is able to raise the needed funds, the second resident brought to the hospital will also agree to stay at the hospital for an additional two years after his or her residency is completed.
