Physicians gather to support suicide prevention

Physicians in 11 cities held a day of solidarity last Saturday to raise awareness of the issue of suicide among medical students, residents, and practicing physicians. The day was organized on the social networking site Care2 in response to the estimated 400 physicians who commit suicide each year. At gatherings in each city speakers included physicians, residents, therapists, activists, and family members of physicians lost to suicide.
Events were held in the following cities:
• Athens, Ohio
• Austin, Texas
• Chicago, Illinois
• Cleveland, Ohio
• Dublin, Ohio
• Harrogate, Tennessee
• Kansas City, Missouri
• Middletown, New York
• Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
• St. Louis, Missouri
• Washington, D.C.
