Sixty-eight percent of residents have more than $50,000 in medical school debt, according to survey of more than 1,800 residents in 25 specialties conducted by Medscape. The largest percentage of respondents (40%) reported having more than $200,000, followed by those with $100,000-$200,000 (20%) and $50,000-$100,000 (8%) of debt. Just 9% of respondents said they owed less than $50,000 in debt and 22% had no debt at all.
