A survey conducted by the Association of American Medical Colleges found that 25% of physicians who graduated medical school in 2014 intend to enroll in the federal government’s Public Service Loan Forgiveness program. This is up from 10.6% in 2014.
Under the program, enrollees working full-time will have the remaining balance of their student loans forgiven after making 120 monthly payments. A study recently published in the Journal of General Internal Medicine found that recent medical school graduates enrolled in the program will have an average of $131,000 in student debt forgiven.
