With the ever-increasing expectations for evidence-based medicine, quality improvement metrics, and technologically savvy physicians, more demands are placed on residency coordinators to guide residency directors and prepare physicians in training for the next paradigm in healthcare: "Do more with less and do it better." Often, that translates into organizations channeling dollars and time only to those mandates that are required and thus easier to justify: accreditations, conferences, and certifications. But there are ways we should and can provide support to coordinators?if not for them, then for us and our programs. As coordinators' positions become more specialized and skilled, our ability as managers to provide backup coverage, and more importantly historical knowledge, diminishes.
