In an effort to attract and keep physicians in the Fort St. John, British Columbia-area, an incentive payment has been authorized for a one-time $100,000 payment to be split between first- and second-year residents. Each resident will receive approximately $400 a month to go toward exam fees and housing costs. Fort St. John has some of the highest rental prices in the province. The Peace River Regional District is providing the funds for the payment.

Second-year resident Terri Hopkins said, "This is incredibly generous of them… in terms of how much it costs them, it's actually quite huge. It's enough to keep one of my colleagues from going further into debt, and allow another one to actually maintain her rent payments."
