Resident report good relationships with attending physicians

A majority of residents report having positive relationships with attending physicians, according to a survey by Medscape. One-third of respondents said their relationship was “excellent,” followed by 44% who said it was “very good” and 19% who said it was “good.”

The report also inquired about salary and found that the average resident salary in 2015 is $55,400. By location, residents in the Northeast earn the most on average with $62,000, followed by the Northwest with $57,000. Residents in the Southeast earn the least on average with $51,000.

Residents also reported varying levels of medical school debt. Thirty-seven percent said they had more than $200,000 in debt, 22% has $100,000-$200,000, and 9% had $99,999-$50,000. Just 10% had less than $50,000 of debt and 22% had no debt.
