Studies show that physicians tend to practice close to where they received their training. It is also been shown that a physician’s salary can be influenced by where he or she chooses to practice. Medscape recently surveyed nearly 20,000 physicians in 25 specialties and determined the top ten states where physicians earned the most. The top states were North Dakota and Alaska with an average annual salary of $330,000, followed by Wyoming with $312,000.
The rest of the top ten states with the highest average annual income for physicians are
Wisconsin ($309,000), Oklahoma ($304,000), New Hampshire ($300,000), Minnesota ($288,000), West Virginia ($287,000), Washington ($286,000), and Indiana ($286,000).
