Number of students enrolled in medical school reaches new high

According to data recently released by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), more students are going to medical school than ever before.
In 2014, the number of first-time enrollees to medical school rose 1.4% to 20,343. The total number of first-time applicants was up 2.7% to 36,697; and the total number of applicants increased 3.1% to 49,480.
AAMC President and CEO Darrell G. Kirch, MD, cited the figures as he urged Congress to lift the federal cap on residency training positions.
