The transition from resident to chief resident brings new responsibilities and challenges. Chief residents are expected to serve many roles for fellow residents, faculty, program coordinators, and directors. A well-trained and effective chief resident can be an integral part of a well-run residency program. However, without the proper preparation and guidance, they can struggle under the weight of the demands of the position.
