The University of Michigan Medical School has created a free, online tool that may help residency programs address a critical component of the ACGME’s Clinical Learning Environment Review (CLER) program.

The Caring with Compassion program aims to prepare learners to provide care for homeless, uninsured, underserved, and at-risk patients. According to the program’s website, the content may help residency programs to address the issue of reducing disparities in healthcare, part of the healthcare quality focus area in the ACGME’s CLER program. Program developers have also identified internal medicine Milestones related to the program’s curriculum.

The program offers free, online learning modules, games, and a printable pocket guide on providing care across bio-psychosocial domains. The program’s developers also plan to release a downloadable e-book called “The Caring Book.”
