The committee that accredits MD-granting medical schools has streamlined its accreditation standards. The Liaison Committee on Medical Education published its reformatted accreditation standards in March, which go into effect for accreditation activities that take place after July 2015. The revised standards are the outcome of a two-year project to eliminate redundancy and improve clarity in the standards. According to the organization, some key changes included:
- Reducing the total number of standards from 132 to 12
- Eliminating redundancy across standards and deleting standards without adequate compliance measures
- Using simple, declarative sentences
