The first set of milestones to reach completion for the Next Accreditation System (NAS) is in emergency medicine. The ACGME released the 24-milestone grid that will assess resident knowledge, skills, and development as physicians.

Each milestone contains five levels of expertise along with descriptions on how to measure where each resident falls in regards to a single skill or piece of knowledge. Each milestone grid also contains suggested methods of evaluation.
