News and briefs: ACGME extending international reach

ACGME-International is commencing the second phase of its initiative to expand ACGME partnerships in several Middle Eastern countries, including Qatar and United Arab Emirates. The goal is to institute rigorous standards used in the U.S., according to ACGME CEO Thomas Nasca, MD, in an online American Medical News article.

Countries who sign contracts look to improve patient care and overall GME accreditation standards.

The program launched in 2009 when ACGME-International partnered with the Ministry of Health in Singapore to switch from a British model of GME to an American model.
