The ACGME released new details about the establishing of categories within the Common Program Requirements as the industry shifts to The Next Accreditation System (NAS) model of assessing GME programs in the coming years. According to a recent news release on ACGME’s new NAS-based site, the ACGME is categorizing the Common Program Requirements “to clearly identify Core Requirements and Detail Requirements pertaining to structure, resources, and educational processes, as well as Outcome Requirements.”

These categorized requirements go into effect for the seven specialties and related subspecialties slated to open the NAS era on July 1, 2013.
